March 21, 2010 - Busy Month
Well, it has been a rather busy March. Not just for me, but also in the industry. Microsoft is being sued, again, which should come as no surprise. Don't get me wrong. I don't agree with it, nor do I condone it. On the other hand, if Microsoft did violate the patents in question, they should be punished as such. Most likely, however, it is just another example of a small company looking for a quick cash injection from the Microsoft honeypot. That's just my opinion, and may very well not be the case.

Apple has filed suit against HTC, claiming over 20 patent violations. The suit appears to be more aimed at Google's Android than at HTC, but is a better way of Apple taking on its new rival in the mobile market, as HTC is a much smaller and much less equipped company to handle an Apple onslaught than is Google. If you can't beat the power company, cut the lines.

Speaking of Google, it appears that they plan to announce an April 10 China exit tomorrow. Personally, I am very much in support of the move, and wish that other large tech companies would do the same. China's allowance of the Google hacks, with an explanation that more supports that behavior than acknowledges any wrong doing by the parties involved, along with a very aggressive view of Internet censorship are both reasons for my stance, and I hope that others can agree. Apple's "walled-garden" approach to its AppStore actually follows quite nicely with China's sensorship views of what the Internet and related technologies should be. Apple controls the content of the AppStore. China controls the content that its citizens can see on the Internet, and wants any company who does business there to ensure that they do not do anything that might upset that sensorship. All in all, it will be interesting to see how Google makes its exit, and what impact, if any, it will have on China and the tech industry.

That's all for this month. If anyone has any questions about the topics mentioned above, wants mor einformation, or would like to express their point-of-view, feel free to Contact Me.
