What is Steel City PC?
The ultimate goal, behind this web site, is to become the all-purpose launching point, for all users of the World Wide Web. The freeware, available in the Downloads section, is meant to keep your PC updated, safe, secure, optimized, and running at maximum performance, while preserving both the hardware, and software, components of your PC, keeping costs down. The Links section is meant to bring the best of the World Wide Web together, in order for users to be able to find what they are looking for quickly, easily, and in the same place. The hope is that a user could make this web site their home page, and use it to navigate to whatever their desired destination might be, without having to worry about unorganized bookmarks, incorrect web addresses, or out-of-date programs running on their computer. I hope this goal will be realized, and will continue providing these services, in order to make users of the Internet more aware of security, while helping them to find solutions to their computer problems, programs to fit their needs, and web sites to fit their interests. Although this web site and materials within are free, you can show your support by donating, via the Donate page. You can also check out my video posts on YouTube.

May 6, 2013 - Long Over Due
I realize it has been quite awhile since my last update, and I apologize for that. It has been a busy couple of months for me. But, since I added some new stuff to the Programming and Multimedia sections of the Downloads pages, I thought I'd at least let everyone know that.

aside from that, I've been using my Surface Pro tablet, running Windows 8 Professional 64-bit for a few months now, and I have to admit to being very impressed. I need to find more ways to integrate it into my daily routine, but it is a powerful, robust tablet that does everything I ask of it instantly. The boot time is amazing (about 2 or 3 seconds from being shut down to lock screen), and the response time to any touch or application launches is just as impressive. If the letter A on the TypeCover keyboard accessory wasn't so particular about being pressed, I wouldn't be able to come up with any criticisms.

In current event news, Adobe announced that it will stop selling its traditional Creative Suite collection of applications, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, DreamWeaver, Acrobat, and more, in favor of a new, cloud-based Software as a Service (Saas) approach. Users will pay a subscription (monthly), and be given use of the suite of applications for the duration of that subscription. For those who use the suite on a regular basis, they may see this as a bad thing because the cost will go up. If you want to read more, check out the ZDNet article on the subject here. Whether or not this new service model will succeed is yet to be determined, but time will tell.

A major update to Windows 8, currently being referred to as Windows "blue," (there is a Windows Phone 8 version as well) is due out late this Summer. I will be sure to post all of the information about this update, when it becomes available. Right now, there is mostly speculation and rumors surrounding this release, as opposed to real, hard facts. But, when those facts come out, I'll be sure to update you on them.

Well, that's all for now. Apple has its event in June, where it is expected that such announcements as iOS 7 will be made. When that happens, I will be sure to provide all of the details here as well. Until then, that's all I have.
